Choose YNAB if…

you already know and love the zero-based method — YNAB is that method, with years of courses and community around it;
your accounts are mostly American or Canadian, where their bank sync is strongest;
a rich ecosystem of workshops and coaching matters to you.

Choose piggyme if…

you bank with Belgian banks and just want your export to work immediately;
you want insight without allocating every euro in advance — the app does the thinking;
privacy is not a footnote for you: end-to-end encrypted, and in private mode even piggyme cannot read your numbers;
you also split expenses with a partner or friends and do not want a second app for that;
you would rather pay €30 a year than €109 — or start free, entirely on your own device.

To be fair: if you have been happily budgeting the YNAB way for years, do not switch over price alone. But if you live in Belgium and mostly want to know where your money goes — without an American middleman — piggyme will feel like home faster.
